Do’s and Don’ts

  • Do clean surfaces with the appropriate stone care products.
  • Do squeegee shower walls. Prevent water pooling and runoff from potted plants.
  • Do schedule annual maintenance and sealing services.
  • Do use felt pads or sliders under chairs and bar stools.
  • Do use coasters under glasses, especially if they contain alcohol or citrus juices.
  • Do place a small rug or mat at entry ways to trap dirt and sand from normal foot traffic.
  • Do dust counter tops, islands, vanities and floor frequently.
  • Do blot up spills immediately to minimize permanent damage to the stone.
  • Do clean surfaces by spraying with a special stone cleaner, then wiping it dry with clean cloth.
  • Do seal your natural stone or grout and tile every 1-3 years according to the sealer used. High quality sealers last 3-5 years, based on usage.
  • Do not ever use vinegar, lemon juice or cleaners containing ammonia and acids on natural stone.
  • Do not ever use cleaners that contain acid such as bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners or tub and tile cleaners.
  • Do not ever use abrasive cleaners such as dry cleaners or soft cleansers.
  • Do not ever use alkaline cleaners not specifically formulated for natural stone.
  • Do not ever use common brand bathroom, “Tub and Tile”, grout, glass or disinfectant cleaners.
